Here are the truths about my training:

-We have the same hours in a day. I sacrifice a hang out, sleeping, watching a tv show, or something else to train. I don’t get an extra hour or so of time- I make the time.

-I watch what I eat. Yeah I might be a vegetarian but I could still throw down if I wanted to. I chose to eliminate sugary drinks, greasy foods (except for pizza, dig my pizzas), excess portion sizes, majority of junk food, and eating out often.

-I cook a good chunk of my own food to prevent getting added junk from without my knowing. I consume more fruits and vegetables. Yes sometimes I do wake up early to prepare my meals for the day.

-****I RESEARCH like crazy different meals, exercises, and exercise programs to see what will help me achieve what I’m striving for. If something worked I kept it if not I disposed of it. I have spoken with trainers and other fitness enthusiasts about what worked for them and took in this information without holding it as absolute truth.****

-I accept setbacks, I don’t accept quitting. There are times when work, school, unseen circumstances, or an injury will delay my training. Once I’m given or see I’m in the clear I get back to training.

-I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to technique I like to make sure my form is great; I am always striving to do better.

-I have back plans or routines. If for whatever reason I’m running off schedule to the point I only have 20 minutes to exercise I’ll use my “emergency” 20 min. workout. I recommend creating one for 20, 30, and 45 minutes. If someone is at your machine you curse them out so you get your workout done!! Kidding, don’t do that. Don’t be that person.

-I listen to body, if a lift or a movement feels funny I stopped, if something was painful I stopped, if something was too easy I made it harder. Flexibility in mind and body matters with training. Your body will tell you what it’s feeling and what it wants to do you have to listen to really understand what it’s saying. If it’s trying to punk out you tell it to shut up and train.

-You need a support system whether it’s tumblr, family, friends, neighbors, whoever you need it. There were times where I was super lazy and I’d text someone to tell them only to get a “shut your ass up and train” response which was enough to do the trick but they were also there to listen to me vent about the frustrations I had with training. It’s normal to be frustrated, it’s gonna happen. Lean onto your support some time.

-Most importantly and finally, I keep going b/c this matters not to show off for an ex, not to my family, not to friends, but to me. I love taking care of myself and I only have this one body I want to get it in the best shape possible as well as push it to its limits.

In short: I try, I fail, I learn, I keep going. Not easy but definitely worth it.
